Instructions for rate problems in the CFLT
Before logging in to make any checks, tell the shiftcrew to restart the
run to see if that solves the problem. If you don't have access to a computer
at the time of the call, ask them to take the CFLT offline and put it online
again. If these don't solve the problem, then do the following.
Check GFLT Rates
> telnet zaxp01 (login:SHFITCREW,passwd:xxxx)
> gflt
> gfltr
Check xCAL_E(464) located in the bottom right of the screen.
The rate should be about 1.0E6 HZ. If it is, and the call is about
100% Dead Time and the GFLT rate being too high, then you must check for noisy
channels (see below). In this situation, taking the CFLT offline and putting it
online again will not help because it is a digital problem.
A rate of 1.0E7 is too high. Continue with instructions.
Check CFLT Components
> telnet cflt02
> wholink (checks processes running)
> offline
- > adder -nocal -nofc
- Select Option 3 (Run Test). Number of test corresponds to following:
- 1-5 CFLT
- 6-7 CFLT-P
- 8-9 Problems in crate
- 12-14 Problems with cards
On CFLT web page follow these links to view log file and see what has failed
Technical -> Discomfort Page @cflt02 -> log files (most recent first) -> top link
PATTERN field correspones to the card number in a certain crate.
Cards are numbered 0-13 and the sequence repeats every 14 cards. So PATTERN 24 is
the 11th card in the 2nd crate.
> online
> cflto (send/read commands to/from cards)
Tests to check crates, cards, and channels. Should be done online
-
> dsbl [crate number]
- Entry of -1 disables everything
- Disables each crate in CFLT
- If rate still exists, noise is after CFLT output (CFLT-P problem)
-
> enbl [crate number]
- Entry of -1 enables everything
-
> toff [crate number] [card number]
- Entry of -1 -1 disables everything
- Disables each TEC (closes output of TEC)
- If rates are 0 then no cares in crate produce noise
-
> tonn [crate number] [card number]
- Entry of -1 -1 enables everything
- Enables each TEC
-
> shut [crate number] [card number] [channel number]
- Entry of -1 -1 -1 disables everything
- Total number of channels is 8
- Shuts input to TECs from detector
- Shows if individual cards produce noise
- Rates can be ~10E-1; noise is from detector
-
> open [crate number] [card number] [channel number]
- Entry of -1 -1 -1 enables everything
If rate is high you can shut Channel or TSC
Check for Noisy Channels
Look at xCAL_E(464). If it's rate is 1.0E^6 then you must check for noisy
channelsl Taking the CFLT offline and putting in online again will not help because
it is a digital problem. You must shut individual cards.
While watching the GFLT Input Rate (must be done in the Hall) do the following.
Login to zaxp01 and run gflt and gfltr and watch the xCAL_E(464) rate.
Shut everything. If all rates go to 0, then there is a noisy channel. To find it, shut
everything off and turn things odd one at a time until noisy channel is identified.
Shut noisy channel.
