The Calorimeter First Level Trigger (CFLT) Adder Cards compute various quantities for each of the sixteen CFLT regions: energy sums E, ET, Ex and Ey for both HAC and EMC; energies in up to eight subregions; an energy histogram by tower; and the number of contained and edge isolated electrons and muons in the region. Further details on the operation and functionality of the CFLT and the Adder Cards can be found in references [1], [2] and [3].
This note describes the functionality and use of the Adder_Test program. The core of Adder_Test is a translation of the tests developed by Carrie Fordham for the original Adder test stand, described in reference [3]. The user interface and transputer communication code has been rewritten for use both at the Zeus Hall Rucksack and the Jade Hall test stand. A number of the old tests have been extended and new tests have been added. A number of interactive utilities have also been added to help test the Adders, TECs, CFLTP, Fast Clear and the GFLT.
The meaning of error messages and an overview of how the tests work are provided in the detailed subsections. Debugging hints are also provided along the way. In the following section, we describe the programming of the Adder card. All of the VME registers and memories and their meaning are listed in the text and in tables at the end. The final section of this note describes a few outstanding problems with the Adder cards.
